V A L E N T I N E ‘S DAY | Celebration for couples, significant others, married, engaged, kicking it, and it’s complicated people.
G A L E N T I N E ‘S DAY | Celebration for single women…OH SNAP!
Valentine’s Day is around the corner, just waiting to hurt someone’s feelings, but this year you don’t have to sit on your couch, eating ice-cream and watching Sex in The City re-runs. The single girl has got her own celebration and it’s called Galentine’s Day. I had no clue about this gathering and was just invited to my first one last night. Being single isn’t a curse for choosing to wait, or simply not finding the person who meets you at your awesome; being single is a choice. Holidays like Valentine’s Day can make you wish there was someone planning something for you.
Timelines will be popping with expressions of love, like and lust and it could make a single girl say “well damn, guess I’m in today, but guess what? Not this year and not on my watch.
Throw a Galentine’s Day celebration, invite other singe ladies over and do whatever you think will be fun for a few hours to include drinks. Get dressed, go out, have a pot-luck with wine and take shots every hour, have a round table discussion on the best snatched eyebrows, but don’t act like your couch is the only option this year for being single.
I didn’t know what Galentine’s Day was 24-hrs ago, but now that I’ve been invited to my first celebration, I’ve already got two planned on my calendar. Listen, I move fast.
SINGLE | FREE & BLACK
SINGLE | not having a significant other that I’m claiming
FREE | Doing what I want, when I want, how I want
BLACK | Dripping magical gold because that’s what I’m made of
My homegirl texted me the deeds about the first Galentine’s Day party going down this weekend and look at the menu:
Jerk Chicken, Shrimp quinoa salad, & Sautéed mixed veggies
Chocolate covered fruit
Games, shots, music and girl talk
See you at 7PM
“We. Are. Doing it”, in my Oprah voice.
Valentine’s Day isn’t just about loving someone else and showing it, it’s about loving yourself and being the first one to give you what you deserve. This year will never be the same because if I’m still single next year, I’ll be planning my Galentine’s Day well in advance.
I love where we are as black women; gathering in a room full of inspiring, creative, beautiful, sisters ready to celebrate ourselves. I can hear a sisterhood soundtrack already and there better be trap music sprinkled in, you know I love my trap..:). I’ve already decided I’m wearing my SINGLE | FREE & BLACK shirt to both events, why? Because I love saying it with my chest, and it comes in two colors..:)
So what are your plans for Valentine’s or Galentine’s Day? Are you attending a Galentine’s Day party? If so, what are you bringing and if not why don’t you plan your own? You only have a few days , call up your girls and make some plans.
Maybe we should do a gift exchange… wait possibly too much. I’ll just bring some wine.
Yours in Beauty,
